Paul concludes his first letter to Timothy with the advice: “Fight the good fight of faith”. He knows that we are in a battle in the world; a battle between forces of darkness and spirit of God, a battle between flesh and spirit (Gal. 5:17). He urges him to resist the fresh and its desire in order to be victorious in this battle: “But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and gentleness’ ‘ (v. 11 NKJV). By “these things” Paul means love of money, materialism, carnality, false teachings and sins which he had been warning him to be wary of (v. 10-11, cf Gal. 5:17-23). Fighting the good fight of faith demands that we must resist the devil and its sinful enticements which lead to hell. We must keep the commandment of God and be spotless (v. 14). We must resist and preach against false doctrines and teach the pure gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and win Souls for Him (vs.20-21). In addition, we must do charity (vs.17-19). Those that fought the good fight of faith and won have a special reward—eternal life (v. 12, Rev. 21:4-8).
