Paul begins the passage by urging Timothy to teach servants to honour and respect their masters. And those who have believing masters should not take them for granted. The servants should not desire to be rich quickly; they have to wait for their settlement or for the appointed time. This is indeed a message to this generation where many servants run away with their master’s money, youths engage in, rituals, prostitutions, kidnapping, stealing armed robbery just to make quick money. Paul therefore advises us to desist from such get-rich-quick syndrome (vs.6-10). The consequences of following such a trend include madness, strange sickness, premature death, imprisonment, curse and eternal damnation in hell fire. Jesus Christ warns: For what profit is it to a man if gains the whole world and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Math. 16:26). The cases of Gehazi in 2 Kings 5: 20-27, Achan in Joshua 7 are also great instances of the dangers of greediness. We should therefore be diligent in our legitimate works and efforts, pray to God and wait for the appointed time of His blessings. He is never late, and in his own time, He makes everything beautiful
