Reflections from the 2024 Diocesan Guild of Lay Readers Convention: Embracing Kingdom Identity and Mission in Onitsha

The Bishop on the Niger, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo(JP) today presided over the opening Holy Communion Service for the 2024 Diocesan Guild of Lay Readers Convention holding at the Diocesan Church/Retreat Center Onitsha.

The Bishop reminded the Lay Readers of the need to uphold the Kingdom Identity in Christ and that as Lay Readers they must model Christ to people at the grassroots.

Taking his text from 1. Cor.4:16, the Bishop admonished that they should be imitators of Christ in all they do as they are the Epistles of the Church in which men will see and read.

Continuing the Bishop charged the Lay Readers in the Diocese to live in love, engage in soul winning and join hands to unite the body of Christ and mobilize members of our Churches at the grassroot.

The Rector of the Diocesan Church Center, Ven. Dr. Izuchukwu Obiekwe express profound gratitude to His Lordship for been a blessing to the Guild of Lay Readers especially the ongoing Diocesan Convention 2024, and prayed that the good Lord will keep on blessing his Episcopacy.

In an address read by the Secretary of the Diocesan Guild of Lay Readers Dr Mrs Nkoli Chukwurah, the Lay Readers thanked the Bishop and Wife for their commitment to God’s work and their presence at the Convention and expressed their readiness to help the Clergy in their various Churches to carry out the work of mission.
