This is a psalm of David which he wrote probably from the cave at Adullam. A fugitive from Saul, David went to the Philistine city of Gath but found no refuge there and narrowly escaped (1Sam. 21: 10-22: 1). Following that, he went to this cave where many desperate men joined him. This joyful and wise psalm shows that we need to be thankful at all times, no matter the circumstance we find ourselves (vv. 1-2). David knew there was something attractive about the true praise of God(vv.3-7).When one genuinely praises God, he or she wants to draw others into the practice of praise. If it is good for one to exalt His name, then it is even better to do it together with His people. David testifies how God delivered him and also lighted the darkness in the lives of his friends. Don’t be selfish about the testimonies of God, because God does not love only you. Others’ testimonies are yours also. David challenges us to experience God’s goodness for ourselves (vv. 8-10) and this can come through a personal encounter. God can do it again and again. Learn to testify of God’s goodness publicly and praise Him continually.
