History was made today, the Quinquagesima Sunday, February 11, 2024, in the Diocese on the Niger as Five Canons and Seven Priests were collated and installed as Archdeacons and Honorary Canons of All Saints’ Cathedral, respectively.
The Holy Communion Service, which was presided over by the Bishop on the Niger, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Nwokolo was filled with God’s presence and aura and also witnessed a great turnout of worshippers who were filled with joy and gratitude to God.
In his sermon titled “Kingdom Exploit” taken from Dan 11:32, Ven. Dr. Okechukwu Ukpeke charged the Archdeacons and Canons to use their elevation to do exploits for the Kingdom of God as worthy citizens. He emphasized that God’s Kingdom is exemplified with exploits, as God is Supreme. In conclusion, he reminded all present to stand for God and His kingdom in their various places of work especially in the face of ravaging corruption in our society.
The service was graced by many dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somto Udeze, the Diocesan Chancellor, Barr Sir Nnamdi Ibegbu (SAN), Deputy Chancellor, Barr. Sir Ben Uzuegbu (SAN), and others too numerous to mention.
The high point of the service was the collation and installation of the Archdeacons and Canons as the Scripture, Liturgy, gift of Priesthood and Revered Traditions of the Church were brought to the fore in the most dignifying way and candour.
The collated Canons are: Rev. Canon Dan Ume Okey, Rev. Canon James Iheanyichukwu, Rev. Canon Eli Nwokeoma, Rev. Canon Uche Nwoye, Rev. Canon Celestine Mgbachi, Rev. Canon Christian Obiorah and Rev. Canon Chijioke Okpalakunne.
The installed Archdeacons are: Ven. Dr. Chinedu Nnatuanya, Ven. Ifeanyi Azubike, Ven. Dr. Azubuike Okudo, Ven. Ifeanyichukwu Ufele, Ven. Nicholas Chukwudi Okafor.
