Know Our Bishop

Owen Chiedozie NWOKOLO was born on the 19th day of June, 1967 at Oka Mbano, to the Priestly family of Rev Canon Felix Chukwunenye and Mrs Adeline Chukwdum Nwokolo of Ebenesi Nnobi in Idemili South L.G.A of Anambra.

INSTITUTIONS ATTENDED: Owen attended All Saints’ Primary School, Amaifeka, Orlu and Central Primary School, Akokwa, which reason would not be unconnected with his father’s intermittent transfer as church worker. He gained admission into the famous Boys’ Secondary School, Uga in 1979 and completed his school certificate courses in 1984. He went on to do the Higher School Certificate at the Federal School of Art and Science Aba between 1985 and 1986. He was at the University of Nigeria between 1986 and 1990 from where he obtained a B.A (Hon.) Religion. He also attended Trinity Theological College Umuhia in 1993 where he was awarded Bishop Uwadi’s award for the best graduating student. He obtained his Masters and Ph.D degrees in Old Testament theology from University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1993 and 2014 respectively.

ORDINATION: Owen was ordained into the Holy Order in 1994 by His Grace, The Most Rev Dr. Arinzechukwu Jonathan Onyemelukwe and priested in 1995. He was collated Canon and Archdeacon in 1999 and 2001 respectively at All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha. Consecrated Bishop on Sunday 9th January, 2011 at All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha and enthroned on 1st March, 2011 at the same Cathedral.

PASTORAL EXPERIENCES He served curacy at St Andrew’s Church Onitsha now Basilica of St. Andrew Onitsha in 1994 – 1995. The Vicar, St. Mark’s Church, Omagba phase 1 from 1996 to 2001; Archdeacon of Oyi Archdeaconry with headquarters in St. Mark’s Church, Ogbunike in 2001. He was appointed the Subdean of All Saints Cathedral Onitsha in 2005 and from there; he became the Bishop on the Niger by Divine providence, mercy and grace.

FAMILY LIFE: Bishop Owen is married to Dr. (Mrs) Elsie Nnoyelum Nwokolo, a very experienced pharmacist who had an exposure in many federal owned health care institutions. The marriage was blessed with children.
